Ohtani’s Red-Hot June Continues
As the temperature rises, so does Shohei Ohtani’s performance. On the 23rd, facing his former team, the Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani hit a home run for the third consecutive game. This marks his 9th homer in June and his 23rd of the season, solidifying his lead as the National League home run leader and helping the Dodgers secure a 7-2 victory.
Dominant Performance in the Third Inning
In the top of the third inning, Gavin Lux hit a solo home run to put the Dodgers on the board. Ohtani followed by launching an 84.9 mph slider from Zach Plesac into right-center field for a two-run homer. The blast traveled 459 feet with an exit velocity of 115.5 mph, showcasing Ohtani’s scorching form. The Dodgers scored four runs in the inning, establishing a strong lead.
Praise from the Manager
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts praised Ohtani’s performance in June, noting that whenever Ohtani locks in on a pitch, he can powerfully drive it out of the park. “His condition is excellent, and he’s managing his body well. He’s had a phenomenal few weeks. There’s no player better than him,” said Roberts.
Stepping Up in Betts’ Absence
With Mookie Betts sidelined due to a left hand fracture caused by a hit-by-pitch, Ohtani has stepped up to fill the leadoff spot. When asked if Ohtani might permanently take over this role, Roberts chuckled and said, “I know he feels very comfortable in that position.”
Historic Finish in Rockies vs. Nationals Game
In another game, the Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals made MLB history with a “walk-off timer violation.” In the bottom of the ninth inning, with the bases loaded and a full count, Nationals pitcher Kyle Finnegan was penalized for a timer violation, resulting in a ball four call. This walk-off walk allowed the Rockies to win 8-7, marking the first “walk-off timer violation” in MLB history. (JILICC)
